The parish of St Luke’s in Flat Bush is Auckland’s newest parish.
We have been based in Sancta Maria College since Sunday, 5 February 2006, when 220 people from Flat Bush gathered to celebrate the Sunday Eucharist. Despite lacking a permanent home, the parish has grown to more than 1,400 and we are now a thriving multi-cultural family congregation.
We have now well and truly outgrown our temporary home at Sancta Maria College and we urgently need a permanent home.
A Much-Needed Community Resource
The site of the Church and Community Facilities is on Chapel Road, just across the road from Barry Curtis Park in the heart of the Flat Bush development.
This building will provide an accessible, affordable resource for all of the Flat Bush community. It will cater to groups of virtually any size – anywhere from two or three people through to gatherings of a thousand.
This will be a valuable resource available for the whole Flat Bush community and at low cost.
The St Luke’s Church and Community building in Flat Bush is currently underway, scheduled for completion in April 2021.
The new build will include the church and two administration offices, a large community lounge and adjoining courtyard, a well-appointed kitchen, meeting room, bathrooms, memorial garden with seating, and a 125-space car park.
The building will be fully accessible and includes a hearing loop, projectors and voice amplification, and accessible bathrooms. The site will have five accessible car parks.
The Cost: Our Challenge
This is an ambitious project for the new and growing parish of St Luke’s and the Catholic Diocese of Auckland, with the overall cost of constructing the Church and Community Facility estimated at $10.8 million.
Fundraising is well underway and great progress has been made, with 75% of this (i.e. $8.05 million) of this raised to date. However, there is still work to do, with a balance of $2.75 million still to be raised.
The campaign is planned to extend to April 2021 and pledges will be made over a period of up to 3 years, from 2020 to 2022.
